The Invitation to participate in the 2020 King of Kings Custom Build Competition was something that we at Gold Coast Harley® jumped at. The opportunity to pit our skills and talents against previous winners of the Battle of the Kings Internationally once again got our competitive juices flowing, and to have another Custom on the World Stage alongside other awesome Builders.
Competition is what Racing is all about, going bar to bar with the best, and the finest, to test your metal on centre stage. The history of the Motor Company is littered with challenges, and the name Harley-Davidson is synonymous with Racing. So what better way to epitomise this than to build a Sportster as a tribute to the Racers that came before us and the men that faced those challenges head-on, in building and racing these motorcycles on the Tracks in the USA and Europe.
In building this XRTT-1200 we have faced our own challenges, but in the true style of Sport of Motorcycle Racing we have bashed the bars, and block passed and come out the others side and believe we have honoured those before us and those with us. The Motorcycling World was introduced to the Sportster in 1957, the Motor Company’s newest addition to an already rich history, powered by a 55cc Overhead Valve Engine and within a year of its debut is recognised as one of the first “superbikes”. From 1957 to now, Sportster has leapt forward in time but we hope to have built the pure racing spirit of the Sportster in our 2020 XRTT-1200 Daytona.
