THE CUSTOM KING
Could this really be the first bike build for Red River H-D® Crew Chief Bobbie Gilmore? And could she possibly be qualified to lead the team as a first-timer?
Those are fair questions, she says. But she thinks she has good answers. For starters, you can’t get a much deeper Harley-Davidson pedigree than the one she has. Her father, whom she describes as a real “James Dean type,” worked, scrimped and saved as a young man to be able to open his own H-D® dealership.
As a result, Bobbie says she “grew up playing with my Ninja Turtles on the parts room floor, riding my 50 cc Y-Zinger through every twist and turn on the property, and hearing all the behind-the-scenes jargon and H-D way of life from the tender age of 2 until now.”
Of course, family history alone is not really enough for a competition as tough as the Battle of the Kings. That’s where her degree in design comes in, she says. She’s using her creativity and management skills to help guide a team that she feels has a chance to win it all.
But the best part is, “it’s crazy fun!” she says. “Getting to build a custom motorcycle, having the opportunity to win national and possibly world recognition for something you personally had a hand in … and the students having the opportunity to win Snap-On tools and the sky’s the limit … are you kidding!? This is the opportunity of a lifetime!”
If the whole team has an attitude like that, everyone involved is already a winner. No matter how the competition turns out.
