Custom King: Dave Friend, 59, Customisation Specialist
Dave Friend has ridden bikes since he was nine-years-old (off-road, of course), and started an apprenticeship as a tool maker at the age of 16. He’s been in the motorcycle trade for over 20 years, building drag racing and land speed bikes as a hobby with the result of winning British championships! He's now worked for Southampton Harley-Davidson for three years, bringing with him extensive experience in customisation and fabrication and never fails to please.
Southampton Harley-Davidson has utilised a 2018 Softail Street Bob with the aim of reproducing the styling of a 1936 Knucklehead. Among the many modifications that have been made to the bike are ‘split fuel tanks’ and fabricated fenders and struts. Plus many other detail changes that never get picked up on until looking right at them!
H-D P&A: Hollywood handlebars, Nostalgia white grips, Whitewall tyres, relocated 7” headlight and a vintage horn, Leather Solo sprung seat. Other components: the bike also has a custom exhaust with fishtail pipe, chrome Linkert air cleaner and toolbox. Details include a dummy choke and fuel tap to replicate original features of the 1936 bikes. Unique custom paint job including real Gold Flake. Finished with full Stage I tuning to give 21st century performance on a bike that looks period.
